"The teaching must not be stock words or stale stories but must always be kept fresh. That is real teaching." -- Shunryu Suzuki
yogayo's roots
Eat yoga! Sleep yoga! Drink yoga! Live yoga! Love yoga!
Today the only thing I might love more than yoga is my trusty companion,
my
buddha dog, Nubes (o.k. and of course my family)...
Yoga became my life in 2001 when life became my practice. Just previous to that year my life, a life quite ordinary, had been shaken to its foundation by a period of extraordinary personal challenge, grief and life threatening dis-ease. After months of what for myself was debilitating physical, mental, spiritual and emotional anguish, I finally walked into the power of a yoga practice and haven't looked back. Under the guidance of two knowledgeable and sharing teachers (Grant and Rhonda), by the fall of 2002 I had taken my first -- of many -- teacher trainings (the learning process can never end).
My background is from a lifetime of high level competitive sports. Soccer was my primary game. My highlights include playing for the varsity team at Simon Fraser University (SFU), Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, and being a member of the 1994 Jamaica National Women's squad. While at SFU I also completed my bachelors degree where I combined Kinesiology and Psychology. For much of my life after graduation from SFU, the plan has been to go back to school to combine my degree with my love of sports and applying them for use together.
Coming full circle, yoga is just a natural fit...with a body already
ingrained with the physical, and a mind fascinated by the mental, it
is
through the gentle fire that is yoga that i find true UNION. The
beauty of breath leads my spirit through the dance that is yoga --
the physical, mental and emotional become one on my journey. Through
the teaching
and
practice of my yoga i am able to feed my soul, while creating a safe
and sacred
space for my students to learn about themselves with a smile. This sweet
yet
challenging journey is my bliss and if, as i dance, the dance of yoga
and share this bliss with my fellow yogis, if just one yogi can, in a
breath,
touch their own bliss... this is the true yoga.
